Introducing My New Series: Notes on Quotes
“I bring everyone who has ever been kind with me.” – Maya Angelou
Hey there,
If you’re receiving this message, you signed up for my writing updates or encouraged my writing in the past.
When people post quotes on social media, I often wonder: But why is this quote meaningful to this person? What’s the story?
This morning I launched my new podcast & article series Notes on Quotes. Here's the simple premise: I'm asking interesting people to share a quote that matters to them, and then we chat about it.
The series begins with three fascinating guests, each sharing a quote of their choosing:
Postmodern Jukebox Founder Scott Bradlee
Bradlee founded Postmodern Jukebox, which has amassed 1.2 billion YouTube views and has over 4 million subscribers.Former Presidential Climate Adviser Bina Venkataraman
Venkataraman was Senior Adviser for Climate Change Innovation in the Obama White House. She’s now Editorial Page Editor at the Boston Globe.David Epstein, New York Times Bestselling Author of Range
David Epstein is the author of two bestselling books: The Sports Gene and Range.
Throughout 2020, you'll hear from a wide variety of guests: writers, CEOs, public radio hosts, singers, circus performers…
The podcast is available on Apple, Google, and other podcasting platforms. Look for new episodes on Mondays.
One feature of the series: With each audio episode, I’ll prepare a print version of the interview that you can read on Medium or via this email newsletter.
As I mentioned in the announcement this morning, I’ve been feeling especially drawn to quotes these days—maybe you have, too. My intuition is that we are craving more earnest conversations and perhaps also a certain respect for language itself.
If you have any feedback or ideas for Notes on Quotes, please let me know—consider this email address a direct line.
Best,
Stephen
